The Dream

I have been interested in dreams as long as I can remember. In elementary school, I asked friends about their dreams and kept notes about the content. I have vivid recall of my own dreams and often sketch a concrete component or attempt to draw a representation of the emotional weight of the dream. At times, these drawings take shape as three-dimensional assemblage.

Dreams are understandable, to a point, as combinations of wish, fear, and the events and objects from daily life. Ultimately, however, they are mysterious and do not depend on reason, as we understand it. They are brief and fragmented windows into our own wonderful unconscious process.

I am a multi-disciplinary mixed media artist using a wide range of techniques to visualize internal experience. The intrapsychic life is examined within a reverence for the natural environment. Each work is an invitation to consider the essential ambiguity of existence, with curiosity and humor, while acknowledging both the randomness and the hidden order that surrounds us.
I have exhibited widely and am represented in public collections including the Denver Art Museum; the Getty Research Institute; Magic Silver Permanent Collections in Kentucky and Iowa; Women in Photography National Archives in Arcadia, California; Iowa Women's Archives; and the Universities of Wisconsin, Iowa, and Northern Iowa Permanent Collections. My work appears in publications of the American Photography Institute, Magic Silver, Lifeworks Arts Press, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, New Mexico Photographer and Montana Magazine.
