As one who enjoys walking and hiking, I find that the only difference between the two is that there is usually a reward to be gained on a hike - a spectacular view, a field of wildflowers, a waterfall. I imagined this waterfall as the reward for a long hike – resting on the rocks, cooling off in the mist, enjoying the company of the spruce trees and the roar of the falls. This piece was made with acrylic paint and monoprinted papers collaged into the paint to add texture and pattern that cannot be accomplished with paint alone.
Hi there! I'm Jonna Wensel, a painter and mixed media artist nestled in the charming town of Mineral Point, WI. My artistic journey is deeply rooted in the enchanting beauty of nature, which never ceases to amaze and inspire me. I love exploring dreamlike realms where reality and imagination intertwine, creating images that play between the representational and the surreal.
Each of my pieces is a little window into another world. I strive to capture the essence of nature, but with a twist—inviting viewers to explore landscapes that feel both comfortably familiar and intriguingly otherworldly. With a relaxed and open approach, my work aims to evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity, encouraging you to pause, reflect, and perhaps see nature from a different viewpoint.
Thank you for taking the time to explore my work. I hope it brings a touch of the whimsical and the wondrous into your day, just as creating it has done for mine.
