I built several candle mountain sculptures over 2.5 years as a family grief ritual, and each one has its own cabinet for display and support. This mountain was cut in half to show the multitude of layers and care that went into its creation, and the cabinet has been cut apart to function as a speaker. The audio piece that emanates includes layered recordings of Lake Michigan, my daughter and I singing songs while melting candles, cats purring, birds announcing the arrival of Spring, an organ at a church funeral, and other components I hoped would soothe a nervous system.*
