Rita Shah is an abstract expressionist artist influenced by the action painting genre. Growing up in the heart of Georgetown in Penang, Malaysia, her work reflects the vibrant, multicultural surroundings of her childhood.
A self-taught artist, Rita paints from the heart rather than from the mind. Her spontaneity of movement on the canvas is evident in each artwork. She uses multiple tools to express the complexity and depth of what is unspoken. Every gaze, every mood reveals something new, so that every painting remains fresh to the eye even after a long time of familiarisation.
The title of an artwork is never random but offers the artist’s articulation of the words which come closest to the emotions experienced both in the painting process and the completed work.
Although each artwork is unique and personal to the artist, each piece has the quality of evoking personal meaning for the viewer, as many who own her work have shared. Collectors in Malaysia and across the world from the UK to Japan to New Zealand proudly display Rita's work.
Rita accepts private commissions.
The artist is represented by Purple Houz Fine Arts Gallery, Malaysia.
