knOwn (knowing & owning my sh!t, my part, my inherited ancestral path)
knOwn is an attempt to comprehend and visualise my own ancestral path so that I can more fully engage and participate in connecting with Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians, with knowing my own relationship to lands on which I walk, and the path I ancestrally took to get here.
Looking back to see forward - a genealogical exploration and visual self-reflection revisiting and addressing generational inherited “First Settler” obliviousness of space, already owned and occupied.
Creative development of new work personally responding to current global events triggering reflection on Australian cultural self-identity and unpacking and acknowledging my inherited compliance and ignorance in an occupied space.
knOwn collection project supported with stART grant funds - Arts Queensland, Australia in partnership with Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre (BEMAC) and Regional Arts Services Network (RASN), Queensland (July - September, 2020). Additional acknowledgment for painting materials supported by Artists+ Materials grant, Visual AIDS, New York, US (February - August, 2020).
