Photo credit: Larissa Riss Melanie | Sanguine Reframed is created from an original acrylic painting completed back in 1999/2000 as part of a series of paintings from my undergraduate visual art studies. Over the preceding years, some earlier artworks have had to be removed from their frames but have stayed with me, patiently waiting for their return to the day-light and to being reframed and rehung. Sanguine Reframed has given me an opportunity to visually create a 3D version of the original (and in tact) Sanguine painting (Riss, 1999), incorporating crochet and weaving techniques with painted canvas. Previous versions of Sanguine have included the painted acrylic original (Artist’s collection as well as a crocheted and woven version incorporating recycled plastics (since destroyed). I enjoy experimenting with the dimensionality , with the work literally coming off the wall.
