The Chain of Being series was inspired by my reading David Esterley's 'The Lost Carving'. As a scholar of Plato he is a fascinating read, a conscious artist, striving for mastery... This book led me to Plato and Plotinus' 'Truth, Beauty and Goodness', a long outmoded triad. But the Platonic reverie left me with a sense of longing and of descent, not of feeling but a longing for that grace of perception and clarity of which these masters wrote so eloquently.Hence the blues of 'Chan of Being', which for me always give rise to a feeling of longing and, with the downward, directional pull of the squeegee and brush, the sense of airy, dewy space. I hope you will get a sense of space and airiness and feel able to enter into the painting. I chose the medium, composition and minimalist style to strengthen the sense of movement and depth.
