I have had many requests for a more affordable tessellation work, so here it is! The proceeds from sales of this print set will be donated to the World Land Trust , Sir David Attenborough is the patron of this environmental charity. The trust preserves habitat in rainforests and have so far protected 88,100 acres.
Rather than my large format, small edition works, this is a small format, large edition. It is a set of 5, in an edition of 125 (5 x 5 x 5!). Each set is individually numbered and initialed, and has a seal featuring Owti (you can read about Owti on my Instagram feed)
This set of 5 prints uses the 5 elements of Chinese philosophy: metal, water, wood, fire and earth. It uses 5 tessellating creatures: Turtle, Frog, Froglet, Amphibian and Fish. I call these as my universal tessellator set, as they can make infinite tessellating patterns. In each of the designs, you can see some of the tiles of the previous design infiltrating the tessellation and transforming the order, just as each element can destroy or create the next in Chinese philosophy.
I show here the 5 pieces framed with a silk mount and a black wooden frame, as a suggestion for how to display them, but they are shipped rolled in a tube and can be framed anyway you like. The print area is 40 x 20cm, and the page size is 42 x 22cm. They are printed on Japanese Kozo (Mulberry) paper and use archival pigment inks. As noted above, they are all sealed with a jade chop, initialed and numbered as a set.
