Statement
I am a visual artist. My practice is centred on drawing, and includes object installation, photography, digital works, printmaking and painting. The work references human, industrial and natural environments as source material to frame questions of memory, identity and origin.
I make discoveries through walking, cycling and loitering. I keep an eye on the obvious and what’s happening around the edges. I document through photography, lists and mindmaps, and visceral memory (feelings aroused by place and time are critical).
Monotony, repetition and rhythm are recurring elements bringing a sense of ritual to performative and graphic works, one-offs and series. Patterns and motifs are present, with examples appearing in landwork, sculpture and digital drawing. It’s not clear at the outset what medium I will choose to develop a particular thought. My studio methods narrow down choices until a series of works can be developed, often choosing several media to reflect together on a single idea.
Printmaking and digital opportunities arise for me from projects that begin in other, sometimes ephemeral, forms such as land work or temporary sculptures. The print, video or digital artefact remains as a tangible record of such work and is more than a mere document.
I have dedicated my time to making art since 2021, graduating from the MA in Fine Art from Arts University Bournemouth in 2023. I work from my studio in North Dorset.
