Floral still lifes from direct observation. I draw my subjects quickly, often in fountain pen, and then add watercolour.
MessageI received an extensive art education, particularly in blind contour drawing, when I was a child at the Edmonton Art Gallery (now Art Gallery of Alberta) and evening classes for adults offered by the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension and the Art Gallery of Alberta.
In 1992 I attended Emily Carr College of Art and Design (as it then was) mono print program in Florence, Italy.
I am also influenced by neolithic/bronze age Trypillian pottery of Ukraine and Romania and the traditional linework of Ukrainian Pysanka egg writing.
Statement
I am a plant portraitist and seek to record the unique life force and energy of each subject. Favorites are cherry and crabapple blossoms and fruit, peonies, roses and rose hips, sweet peas, and nasturtiums from my garden.
I have maintained my regular meditative observational ink drawing and watercolour practice for approximately 15 years. I also enjoy sketching in gardens when I travel.
