Statement
My name is Rekha Krishnamurthi and I am a mixed media collage artist, printmaker and watercolor artist on a colorful journey of creative exploration. My artworks are a vivid tableau of texture, bold colors, and intricate patterns inspired by my South Asian heritage, my global wanderings, cherished childhood memories, and the beauty I observe in the ordinary. For me, art isn't merely about crafting artifacts; it's a mission to encourage creative thinking, stoke curiosity, and stimulate conversation.
Having a background in Children's Book Illustration and Textile Design allows me to create artworks full of whimsy and eclectic compositions. I believe in constant experimentation and creative play in my work, which is evident in the diverse techniques and styles that I like to use. The process of crafting a new artwork feels like solving a jigsaw puzzle to me. I search for the ideal artistic elements and gather pieces that seamlessly fit together, allowing the magic of creation to take shape. I create a visual symphony of depth, texture, and detailed images using a variety of materials such as acrylic paints, watercolors, graphite, and numerous layering processes. Even when translating my original artwork into digital mediums, the enchantment persists, resulting in innovative digital artworks. Through my work, I aspire to kindle wonder and curiosity in others and I wish to urge them to embark on their unique journeys of creative exploration.
