Contemporary realism landscape of the bridge over Winter Bay, Corran Ban, in eastern Prince Edward Island (Epekwitk). The geometric structure of the bridge and its supports and railings cast shadows and reflections into the calm water, distorted by ripples. Low evening light illuminates the scene from right to left.
Bridges symbolize making connections, lifting and carrying us over obstacles. As with most public infrastructure, they require investing time, planning, and resources into a project deemed to be worth it in the long run, benefitting many people.
Nature adapts and interacts with the built structure. Storms and tides inscribe their own abstracted colours and patterns on the concrete and the caged stones lining the channel. When calm, the water's surface shows the structure from a different point of view, including the marks it has left behind. As perceptive and thinking beings, to pause and reflect on our impressions is a powerful exercise, especially when we can truly consider a situation from another angle.
