Where Broken Pieces Find A Home. My hope is that my art will bring a smile to those who view it, because i find great joy and purpose in creating it.
MessageChattanooga-based artist Rebecca Viola Richards has been honing her mixed-media art skills over the last several years. She has blended her need to create with her love of colors and textures. This is accomplished with an underpainting of either oil or acrylic on canvas or a cradleboard. She then develops texture by combining various substances such as geodes, agates, crystals, glass, stones, fibers, fossils, shells, etc., and assorted mediums, finishing the piece with archival resin /varnish. Mark-making and the use of fabric and archival papers in her mixed-media pieces add interest and multidimensionality, showcasing her craftsmanship and attention to detail and fostering admiration and respect among viewers and collectors.
Rebecca enjoys the process of starting a piece without knowing where the finish line is. The challenge of transforming nothing into a meaningful artwork brings vitality and excitement to her creative journey. Her art explores themes of animals, abstracts, and landscapes, reflecting her diverse inspirations and emotional depth.
Being a native of Cleveland, TN, she feels a strong connection to Chattanooga, TN, and its vibrant art scene. Rebecca is a frequent exhibitor at the Collegedale Market near Chattanooga and has had her works sold at the Southern Market in Knoxville, TN. She has also been accepted into several Juried Fine Art shows, including the St. James Court Fine Art Show in Louisville, KY, and the Asheville Fine Art Show in Asheville, NC. She continues to build her skills by attending workshops at ArrowMont Art School, Gatlinburg, TN, demonstrating her dedication to growth and mastery, which reassures viewers of her evolving artistry.
Statement
Where Broken Pieces Find A Home.
My desire to create has always been present within me. Only recently have I found a way to take that desire and turn it into reality. I feel very blessed to have found a medium that inspires me and gives me a way to express my creative side. My studio has turned into one of my "happy places," and being there brings me peace and satisfaction. I believe Art is a way of journaling what's happening in our souls. I hope that my art will bring a smile to those who view it because I find great joy and purpose in creating it.
