Rebecca Stahr
Grayslake, IL
I love finding beauty in the ordinary, value in the discarded and lessons in impermanence of life and nature.
MessageRebecca Stahr is a visual artist living with her husband and son in conservation community surrounded by the beautiful native prairie of northern Illinois. Rebecca attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago, studying advertising, graphic design and illustration, where she graduated in 1992. After more than 20 years of working in the commercial art field, Rebecca is now a full time artist. She is a member of various professional organizations and has work displayed in many private collections and public gallery spaces in the greater Chicago and Milwaukee areas.
Rebecca’s paintings often feel like imagined emotional inner landscapes. Her works are born out of a larger contemplative practice rooted in experiencing the sacred connectedness in our natural world, the beauty of impermanence and the cycles of life and nature. The paintings becomes a record of that journey and as well a path of healing and deeper understanding of the beauty of humanity’s imperfection.
Statement
My paintings often feel like imagined emotional inner landscapes. My art is born out of a larger contemplative practice rooted in experiencing the sacred connectedness in our natural world, the beauty of impermanence and the cycles of life and nature. My studio is a sacred space for me and is a place where exploration and play become holy acts in a conversation. The process of mixing the paint, layering, mark-making and scraping away is meditative and prayer-like. It stirs an inner dialogue, a spiritual connection, that starts a raw flow from deep within. The paintings becomes a record of that journey and as well a path of healing and deeper understanding of the beauty of humanity’s imperfection.
