Becky is a Nebraska-based abstract artist and creative awakening guide. Her work portrays expressive lines, vibrant color, energy and emotion — softness and boldness, all woven together.
Becky's Mexican heritage has shaped her lifelong passion for color. She layers paint, markers, oil pastels, and pencil to build compositions that evoke movement, aliveness, and freedom. Her graphic design background also influences her in how she works with line and color.
Becky creates spiritually inspired abstract mixed media paintings that hold energy, emotion, and frequency — reflections of what it means to be human, meant to be felt rather than just seen.
Becky is also a Reiki healer, and that's woven into her art just as much as the color is. Energy moves through her paintings. Tensions between masculine and feminine polarities surface throughout her paintings — and the feminine themes of embodiment she keeps coming back to: softness, sacredness, wildness, radiance, truth, wisdom, expression, power, and resilience.
She's self-taught and has studied with Robert Burridge, Jeanne Bessette, Jodi King, Ardith Goodwin, and Deb Chaney, and more recently in an art mentorship with Deni Rayneau.
Becky works full-time from her home studio, creating art and guiding women through their own creative awakening — using art as a tool for healing, for expression, for coming back home to themselves and letting their light shine. She shares more of this on her YouTube channel, "Illuminate with Becky", and she's a co-author of two internationally bestselling books in the Creative Life Series — one on living a fully expressed creative life, one on self-love.
Statement
I am an abstract artist from Omaha, Nebraska, with Texas roots. My Hispanic heritage deeply influences my passion for color.
I developed a curiosity and creative aliveness at a young age while living in a small town in Washington state. The beautiful scenery and easy living lifestyle provided the perfect backdrop for adventure, playfulness and imagination.
My time in Washington was short-lived when my family was relocated to Nebraska I felt like I had lost parts of myself after I left. My sense of aliveness was dimmed. Losing parts of myself, learning to transition and start over, turned out to be a theme in my life. Along with a spiritual awakening, and a stroke later in life, my journey has been one of re-connecting to my creative aliveness, self discovery, healing, self-love, remembrance, and the full embodiment of who I truly am.
My work, explores color, energy and emotions as reflections of my journey lived through the deaths and rebirths — of losing parts of me then coming home to myself again and again.
Through expressive lines, layered movement, vibrant color and shapes, my paintings reflect both the beauty and chaos of the human experience. At times the work feels soft, luminous, and poetic; at others, bold, radiant and untamed.
My journey has also been about uncovering the divine feminine within me. So you will see the interplay between masculine and feminine polarities emerge throughout my work.
My journey has taught me to live boldly & unapologetically. In the art of my becoming I found remembrance. I choose to bring through beauty, authenticity, and inner strength because they are lessons I have learned and leave as my legacy. My hope is to invite others to reconnect with themselves and live a fully expressed and empowered life.
