This painting is 3.75 ft wide x 5 ft high.
Floating crystalline form against a flat, grey background. Each facet in the form varies in colour, creating dynamic colour play within a confined shape. I utilized acrylic paints for their fast drying time and occasionally added a slower drying medium where I needed more time to blend or more transparency in the layer.
These pieces are created to be mysterious objects that bring the viewer into this floating space like a type of science-fiction mandala. This piece is part of my Tesseract series which was born out of iteration of a the "portal" forms that I like to paint. I reversed the values this time with all the interest taking place within the shape and the background being as flat and uniform as possible. The pieces began to remind me of an object used for inter-dimensional travel in the book "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'Engle. In the book this object is called a "Tesseract" and I began to think of these forms as containing multiple dimensions represented by the differing facets.
