A flat sandstone ledge provides a vantage point for contemplating the formation of a boundless southwestern landscape. I am grounded by every shade of red. And without wind, there is silence in the air. Then I hear it. Only as I re-focus on a small fissure in the stone do I discover the sound of ants organizing around a singular purpose. I feel closer to the atom than to the star.
