I watch birds daily. They can appear and disappear from view in an instant, with the air surrounding them cushioning every movement. They fly, they flutter, they fall. When the air holding them aloft dissolves, I see a passageway opening in the sky, one lined in pale blue light, a place of calm where the outside turbulence is stilled.
