Raquel Roth is a Halifax based acrylic artist and is also a dental clinical instructor at Dalhousie University. Originally from Trinidad, she is inspired by bold colours and the beauty of natural elements, especially florals. She attributes this largely to the vibrancy of island life growing up with its yearly Carnival celebrations. She is a member of the Association of Atlantic Area Artists, the Dartmouth Visual Art Society, the Contemporary Art Society and is a juried member of the Halifax Art Map Society. Her colourful artwork is on display at local shops and galleries in Halifax, Nova Scotia and in Uxbridge, Ontario. Selections of her work are also available at several curated online galleries which include prestongallery.com (Ontario), herringbone.ca (Nova Scotia) and most recently, kefiartgallery.com (Ontario).
Statement
“Hello,
I’m an acrylic artist living in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia. Colour excites me and serves as creative inspiration for my cheerful, bold and whimsical pieces. There’s something magical about how pigments of different colours interact to produce the most luscious, and sometimes unexpected, hues. I think that’s why I am primarily drawn to florals since there are so many variations of shades, tints and tones that can describe the many variety of flowers. I am constantly amazed at the range of emotions that art can evoke and I love sharing the joy I feel when I am painting. It definitely motivates me to keep creating art so that I can share those moments again and again, one painting at a time”.
