Before the Grand Ole Opry, before the Mother Church of Country Music, there was the Union Gospel Tabernacle — built in 1891 by a riverboat captain who found religion. That name is still carved in the stone above the door. This painting starts there. The bare wood above the roofline carries no color, no imposed atmosphere. The building holds its own history.
