In this artwork titled "Faded," I draw inspiration from the captivating Islamic geometric patterns of Alhambra's Torre de las Damas lI, seeking to evoke a sense of timeless beauty with a contemporary twist.
One panel showcases the hand-painted pattern in a classic blue hue, lending a watercolour effect that imbues the artwork with a sense of fluidity and depth. The addition of gold foil accents adds a touch of opulence, illuminating the design with a subtle, ethereal glow.
The second panel, meticulously hand-sewn with gold metal thread, faithfully replicates the painted pattern. Here, a unique technique is employed to create a fading effect. The bottom of the pattern is highlighted with bold intensity, gradually transitioning into a softer, more subtle rendition as it ascends. This deliberate gradient imparts a sense of depth and perspective, inviting viewers to explore the layers of the design.
The juxtaposition of hand-painted artistry and meticulously sewn craftsmanship invites contemplation of the intersection between tradition and innovation.
Through this work, I hope to convey a sense of the timeless elegance found in Alhambra's patterns, while also highlighting the potential for artistic expression to evolve and adapt.
