In "Beryl II," I delve into the fascinating geometry of the Alhambra Palace in Spain, utilising the profound symbolism inherent in its 16-fold rosette pattern to create a visual representation of spiritual unity and reverence.
The artwork begins with an emerald beryl green base, a colour imbued with its own symbolism of growth, renewal, and the vitality of life. Upon this vibrant canvas, the 16-fold rosette geometric pattern, inspired by the Alhambra, emerges as a radiant circle. This form, meticulously sewn with illuminating gold metal thread, represents the unifying force that underpins Islamic faith.
The circle's significance lies in its representation of unity within Islam, a testament to the oneness of Allah. At the heart of each pattern lies a midpoint, symbolising the singular divine presence. This central point embodies the notion that there is one Allah, and it also serves as a nod to Mecca, the holy city, around which the faithful congregate in worship.
Through "Beryl II," I seek to invite viewers into a contemplative space, where the interplay of colour, form, and symbol serves as a visual prayer, resonating with the profound spiritual truths embedded in Islamic tradition. It is my hope that this artwork not only celebrates the aesthetic beauty of the Alhambra's geometry but also serves as a reminder of the unity and devotion that bind the global Islamic community.
