Colour, movement, patterns, memory, connection – These are all the things Rachel Rae captures in her paintings. Rachel Rae is following in the footsteps of multi generations of artists with creativity as part of her DNA. Whilst living in Spain in an apartment overlooking the ocean, she was inspired to dedicate her time to focus on her painting art practice. But since returning to Sydney she has become awestruck at the colours of the Australian landscape. Being an avid traveller and walker, Rachel Rae witnesses many life moments which is the inspiration for her artwork, painting personal records of flora, fauna, people, and landscapes.
Rachel Rae paints in acrylics, expressively adding a depth of colour – A simple rock can be a rainbow of colours. Quickly highlighting the movement of the landscape in a stationary painting, Rachel is fascinated by the movement of nature contrasting with the static man-made objects and how humans, animals and nature co-exist. However, by spending the time to paint the smaller details and minutiae, it allows time for reflection during the process. Capturing personal records of the flora, fauna, people, and landscapes in life’s moments creates a memory and connection to past and present experiences.
Rachel Rae creates personal paintings of past and present experiences creating memory and connection to the vibrant colour and uniqueness of the world around us.
Statement
“When experiencing life moments, I often visualise them as a painting. I have an overwhelming need to capture the glorious colour, movement and moments in my paintings creating connections to that memory. I am never short of inspiration as there are always wonderful memories and life moments to paint.”
