Artist: Katherine Bramante
My creative process embodies the predominantly intuitive and responsive way that I make art. I
rarely have an image in mind when I start working. I make drawings, watercolor paintings or prints,
with the intention of cutting, layering and sculpting them to combine into new pieces. I am an
“accidental artist” in the sense that I am most excited by the creative challenge of responding to
visual imagery that presents itself to me. Constant experimentation leads me to exciting
discoveries.
I am especially intrigued by expanding 2D pieces into 3D formats and large-scale installations. One
such piece, Wellfleet Dunes, my senior thesis show, at the University of Central Arkansas, was
awarded the “Outstanding Art Exhibition of the Year.” I have participated in group shows in the
Black Box and Baum Gallery of Fine Art at the University of Central Arkansas, as well as at the
Cove Gallery and Public Library in Wellfleet, MA, and the Yellow Barn, Artists and Makers Space
and the Pyramid Atlantic Arts Center in the Washington, DC area. I was born in Bridgeport, CT, and
have lived in Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, Greece and Brazil. I received a BA from Boston
University and a BFA from the University of Central Arkansas. I live in Bethesda and have a studio
at Artists and Makers Studios in Rockville, MD.
