This sculpture was created in the three year period during which the artist, originally from New York, lived in Nebraska while working to earn his graduate degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Praxis, which is about contemplation shifting into movement, is one of four metal sculptures by the artist located in Nebraska.

Praxis was originally commissioned for the Nebraska/Omaha Information Center through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, was the first completed project for the Nebraska 1% for Art program, a bill passed by the state in 1978 which establishes that a minimum of 1% of the cost for public building projects be spent on the acquisition of artwork for the site.

After the sale of the state land where it was originally located, Praxis was deaccessioned from the 1% for Art collection and donated to the Omaha Parks Department, which relocated the sculpture to Hanscom Park.
