We're just a little too far south in Western Australia to have these birds as visitors in the yard, but it doesn't take too much travelling. When I was little child we kept a few pairs as pets, and their cheerful honking tweets are etched in my memory. They're only tiny birds - this painting is larger than life - and their warm colouring and distinctive markings are quite beautiful.
