These oil paintings are my visual response to living in Tucson, Arizona, in the Sonoran desert of the southwestern USA. A piece starts with the drawings I make in my sketchbooks on my daily walks, from which I try to capture a memory of a shape or scene. I occasionally refer to photos for colour reference, but colours change during the process of making the painting, so that what is green in the real world may finish as red, violet, or orange.
