Balingen
Abstract artist exploring hidden layers of existence through vibrant compositions. My art transforms invisible truths into visual dialogues of human connection.
MessageBorn in 1971 in Albstadt, Germany, Petra Penz is an abstract artist whose work explores the unseen layers of existence, where authentic truth resides beneath the visible surface.
After studying at the Art Center College of Design where she developed her unique approach to form and color through product and graphic design, Penz underwent intensive studies with master artists Professor Markus Lüpertz and Daniela Kammerer to refine her distinctive artistic voice.
Highly influenced by the interplay between visible surfaces and hidden depths, the artist's work creates visual dialogues that transform personal narratives into universal reflections. Each series explores distinct thematic threads—from female genealogy to existential questions of trust—inviting viewers to encounter their own depths within her compositions.
In her works, Penz meticulously develops complex compositions through precisely chosen color palettes and rhythmic structures that oscillate between condensation and dissolution. Her paintings examine the multifaceted nature of human experience, from personal memories to collective narratives.
The artist's creative process begins intuitively, allowing each painting to emerge through multiple layers of acrylic paint on canvas. Like uncovering emotional landscapes, she builds up, covers, and reveals elements until a deeper resonance emerges.
In Penz's work, large format canvases play a crucial role in creating immersive experiences, while the interplay of decisive gestures and subtle transitions mirrors our complex navigation of contemporary existence.
Petra Penz regularly exhibits across Europe, with her work shown in prestigious venues in Berlin, Munich, and Milan. Her paintings are held in private collections throughout Europe and the United States.
The artist currently lives and works in Balingen, Germany.
Statement
The transformation of the invisible into the visible is my way of exploring the deeper truths that lie beneath the surface of our existence.
I work intuitively at first, allowing each painting to emerge through multiple layers of acrylic paint on canvas. Like uncovering emotional landscapes, I build up, cover, and reveal elements until a deeper resonance manifests. Through precisely chosen color palettes and rhythmic structures, I create compositions that pulse between condensation and dissolution.
My artistic practice unfolds in distinct series, each exploring a specific theme or question that I examine from multiple perspectives. Whether investigating female genealogy, trust, visibility, or the tension between digital superficiality and authentic being, each series becomes a visual dialogue about transformation. I follow different thematic threads, united by a constant search for those essential moments where deeper truth reveals itself behind the visible.
This meditative journey on canvas creates resonant spaces where the complexity of human experience can be encountered. My art opens a contemplative realm where viewers can navigate between the seen and unseen, between societal masks and inner selves, inviting each person to discover their own depths within the rhythmic structures and vibrant contrasts of my compositions.
