This work reinterprets a Lovelights postcard in which a couple embraces inside an incandescent light bulb, the double-loop carbon filament forming a heart.
In the early twentieth century, such imagery fused romance with emerging electrical technology, turning artificial light into a metaphor for emotional warmth and connection.
The composition unfolds in three stages. On the left, the original postcard image is tilted and placed atop its reverseAt center, the bulb is rendered alone—glowing, hollowed, and enlarged. On the right, the couple appears freed from the enclosure, dancing outward, their footprints tracing an escape from containment.
The handwritten poem—“don’t change the old one for the new”—hovers over this progression, quietly echoing tensions between novelty and intimacy, technology and human bond, energy and desire.
