Pavlina Vagioni (b.1975) is a Greek multimedia artist with a kaleidoscopic practice spanning sculpture, painting, sound, and digital art. She adopts a site-specific approach to making work with installations presented at a range of sizes, embracing abstract and figurative elements.
Influenced by her multicultural, multilingual, and diasporic background, Vagioni's experiences, both personal and professional, are marked by continuous states of internal and external flux. Central to her practice is the exploration of archetypal symbolism as a means of re-enchantment and metamorphosis within classical mythological themes. Furthermore, her creative approach is anchored in a rigorous study of literary texts, with a particular emphasis on etymological analyses before the realization of each piece.
Pavlina received her formal training in painting, sculpting, ceramics, and stage design at the Athens School of Fine Arts of Greece, graduating at the Master’s level with honors in 2016. Additionally, she is a classically trained soprano soloist with studies in piano, music theory, and composition. This blend of disciplines invariably informs her artistic practice.
Actively maintaining studios on both sides of the Atlantic—located in Houston, Texas, and Athens, Greece—Vagioni exhibits in galleries and institutions across the US and Europe. Noteworthy group exhibitions include venues like the Byzantine & Christian Museum (Athens, Greece), and the Hellenic American Union (Athens, Greece). Solo exhibitions span locations such as Kappatos Gallery (Athens, Greece), TANK Space (Houston, Texas), and Carillon Gallery (Ft Worth, Texas), with a forthcoming public art project at the ION Building in Houston, Texas (Spring 2024). Her work has earned recognition in international art publications.
