I am an award-winning painter. It is my intent to connect with you through our shared, life-affirming experiences.
MessageFrom an early age, art has bridged my inner and outer worlds. Growing up an only child in a quiet corner of a large and boisterous urban city, art was my best friend and close companion. Drawing led to painting, collages, and calligraphy. I’ve even done storefront windows.
Currently, I lead visual art workshops that stimulate creative connections, throughout Greater Washington, DC. Primarily I work with Arts for the Aging, an organization that engages older adults with diverse abilities and backgrounds through participation in multi-disciplinary arts. My workshops build relationships, foster self-expression, and support families and caregivers. They are presented at senior centers, affordable housing communities, community centers, or virtually.
I have held a variety of engaging positions, from a freelance writer and calligrapher in Kenya to government senior executive in Washington, DC. After retiring from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and Vanderbilt University’s Curb Center for Art, Enterprise, and Public Policy, I devote most of my time strengthening my drawing and painting skills. I am an award-winning painter and regularly exhibit in regional galleries.
Born in Chicago, I attended the Art Institute of Chicago while in high school; I went on to earn a BA in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville; I received an MA in Journalism, from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Committed to life-long learning, I continually expand my knowledge and skills with studio art classes, residency programs, and on-line study.
Statement
My creative expressions start with stories worth telling on canvas. My most compelling narratives convey strong composition and design with a supporting cast of relatable characters, confident color palettes and believable brush strokes. These paintings present people, places and patterns that evoke warm, familiar memories yet offer new perspectives. It is my intent to connect with you through our shared, life-affirming experiences. I hope my joy of painting these works resonates with the joy in you.
