- Central Group, Left-Hand Pole T'Chits-A-MA-Hun
An early head chief, T'Chits-a-ma-hun stood for peace between the S'Klallen and the white settlers. To him, history gives credit for keeping the settlers of Port Townsend from massacre during what historians call the Indian Wars of the 1850's. On this pole, T'Chits-a-ma-hun holds up his hand in greeting the early settlers. In his other hand, he holds the blanket with which he signaled the settlers of danger. Above T'Chits-a-ma-hun is the figure of Thunderbird, a powerful guardian spirit associated with the S'Klallam people.
