This vase was thrown on the wheel and then altered. The iridescent glaze was achieved by wood-firing the piece - a 36-hour long process of constantly feeding the kiln with wood to achieve temperatures hot enough to actually melt the ash which then glazes the pieces with the minerals trapped in the wood.
