Statement

I paint landscapes that convey a sense of solitude and contemplation. I explore remote and not so remote places that could still be considered a refuge from chaotic life. I may be on bicycle or boat and usually stumble on them accidentally, so I’m unlikely to have materials to paint from life. When I look at the scene again later in my studio I take whatever details I like from the photos and then start adding my own marks, colors and gestures. There is a kind of fermentation of feeling and ideas that emerges in the time lapse between the real experience and the recorded one.
