When I lived in Maryland, I lived in a succession of apartment complexes, looking for the one that was just right. Well, the apartment I was living in at the time I painted this small water color (and its companion, "Bright Morning") did not fill the bill. However, my balcony did look out over an interesting fence with grass on our side of it. One brilliantly sunny day, a bird was perched on my railing. So he, the fence and a few other elements became the main characters of this painting. The other side of the fence was not so lovely, but artists are allowed to take liberties with reality. Which is a terrific use of our imaginations!
