As an artist my passion is finding inspiration in the ordinary. That inspiration can strike on a walk, at a bus stop, in a restaurant, or visiting with a friend. These flashes of insight remind me to be present in the moment. I often take photos and use them as the starting point for a painting. My I-Phone gives me instant documentation, but when I am at the easel, engaged in my process, I begin to see these everyday digital images transform, emerging into something divine. I love to paint real people going about their daily routines and elevate that experience to something that the viewer may find thought-provoking through their own interpretation. You don’t have to know the story behind the painting to understand the value of the person/people in it. I have gravitated from oil painting to other mediums. Currently I’m working with dry pastels on sanded artist paper which allow me to draw and paint at the same time and helps to keep my paintings fresher and more spontaneous.
