Originally from Kansas and Oklahoma Pat relocated to the south in the mid sixties. She has lived in south Louisiana for 50 years. She became interested in art at a young age and took art classes in high school and college graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1970 with a degree in Marketing. She has worked professionally in the fields of public relations, personnel, & management.
Working in watercolor and acrylics when young, Pat took drawing and ceramics classes and apprenticed in stained glass in the 80’s and 90’s. Since resuming her artistic endeavors she has become enamored with pastels and enjoys working in oils and acrylics. She has studied under pastelist Alan Flattmann of New Orleans and Wolf Kahn of New York. She has also studied under Larry Casso of the Baton Rouge Fine Art Academy and Nancy Stutes of the Degas Pastel Society.
In the meantime, Pat married and had four children and was always active in their activities teaching summer art classes at the Hammond Regional Cultural Foundation, volunteer art instruction at Holy Ghost Elementary School and den leader for the Cub Scouts among many other related activities.
Pat was named “Woman of the Year” by the Hammond Junior Auxiliary in 1997 for her work in the community especially with children’s programs. She has been active with the Hammond Regional Arts Center and was, in fact, a charter board member and currently serves on that board.. Currently she is a member of the Hammond Art Guild, Hammond Regional Art Center, Louisiana Art and Artists Guild, Degas Pastel Society and the St. Tammany Art Association. She has also taught acrylics and pastels with the Hammond Art Guild Adult Summer Camps.
Through her travels Pat was introduced to the work of Wolf Kahn, Mark Rothko and Helen Frankenthaler and was inspired to work in large color fields. She delights in the brilliant colors that can be produced with pastels and the depth that can be achieved with acrylics. She interprets the landscape in both impressionist and abstract styles in multi-medial artworks.
Pat has had several individual shows and has exhibited in group exhibitions in the region winning several ribbons and best of show. prizes Macaluso’s work can be found in collections throughout the region (Louisiana, Alabama, Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida) New York and Central America. She is represented by The Oak Street Gallery. Pat’s work has been featured on the cover of Tangi Lifestyles magazine and InsideNorthside magazine. She has also been included in the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Annual Louisiana Fine Art Showcase at Southeastern Louisiana University. She recently wone “Best of Show” at the 2013 St. Tammany Art Association 48th Annual Summer Show.
