Hydro Power
- Acrylic, Spray Paint
- Karl Zurflüh
Hydro Power is a loose narrative encompassing Riverfront Park and the surrounding history. Starting at the West, the two walls represent the Saluda and the Broad Rivers coming together to form the Congaree. The North wall shows the Congaree River coming in the channel and entering the hydropower plant. The East wall is a depiction of the original textile mill; the dam powered and first fully electric mill in the world. It manufactured 12 different grades of duckcloth. The South wall and stairs show the water flowing out from the dam and returning to the river. This completes the circle of the space and speaks to the clean energy these rivers provided.
The piece is a mixture of acrylic paint and spray paint. Zurflüh collaborated with his wife Sara Cook for installation.
