This multi layered piece celebrates flowers…gardening, preservation, arrangement. I really like flowers….I love sketching them. Flowers are so multilayered….having so many uses.
‘Vase’ explores the symbolic relationship between container and content through a vibrant tapestry of colour and form. The underlying painted surface provides a rich and dynamic environment for stylised floral shapes, meticulously cut from paper and collaged onto the canvas.
The repeating floral motifs are the quintessential contents of a vase, presented in an abstracted form to capture the essence of natural beauty rather than a literal representation. Their dense arrangement evokes the fullness and abundance of a vessel overflowing with blooms, suggesting themes of nurturing, preservation, and the celebration of life's fleeting beauty.
The juxtaposition of the fluid painted background and the structured paper cutouts highlights the interplay between the organic and the constructed.
The ‘vase’ is implied through the presentation of its contents, inviting contemplation on the act of holding, containing, and appreciating the natural world within an artificial framework.
‘Vase’ serves as a meditation on the transformative power of presentation and the symbolic weight of everyday objects. It encourages the viewer to consider the beauty and meaning that arise when nature is curated and contained, prompting reflection on themes of ephemerality, appreciation, and the human desire to capture and hold onto moments of beauty.
