Statement
My creative process is driven by the liberating question: 'Why not?' This philosophy fuels a practice that celebrates spontaneity and flux, viewing the unconstrained studio process itself as the artwork. Working primarily on un-stretched canvas, I embrace the medium's physicality, employing techniques like cutting, stitching, and weaving to transform the surface.
I engage in a deliberate act of 'foraging and gathering,' incorporating 'found objects'—both organic (leaves, stems, husks) and inorganic (glass beads, rubber bands, fabric)—to explore themes of continuity and repurposing. Juxtaposing these disparate elements allows me to breathe 'a life of purpose' back into the discarded and preloved.
Inspired by Kandinsky, I practice narrative abstraction, using the canvas to explore the complexities of human relationships and the emotions depicted in my poetry. The written word acts as a running commentary, transforming personal experience into a universally resonant visual language. My work is a continuous exploration, pushing past doubt to realize the potential of the possible.
I am spontaneous and inquisitive about material exploration and I aim to make my studio a dynamic space. I use a wide range of mediums as well as sound, shadows and light. Discovery through hands-on experimentation is important to me because it fuels my creative momentum and the fluidly evolving direction of each project. My making process is transformed by the interplay between different media. Each project evolves organically as the materials guide the development and form of each piece.
Action Art through audience participation is integral because it brings my work to life by giving it significance.
