“The One-Sided Argument” explores the visual manifestation of imbalance and unresolved dialogue.
Through the unpredictable interaction of acrylic paint, manipulated by the introduction of salt, a landscape of contrasting textures and fluid forms emerges on the rigid surface of the MDF block. The gesso provides a foundational tension, a stark white against which the vibrant yet sometimes chaotic colors – black, yellow, blue, and red – play out their dynamic.
The salt acts as an unseen force, disrupting the smooth application of paint, creating unexpected fissures and crystalline patterns that speak to the friction inherent in a singular perspective. The limited 5x5 inch format focuses this energetic exchange, drawing the viewer into an intimate space where the argument unfolds. It is not about resolution, but rather the raw energy and lingering residue of a viewpoint asserted without reciprocal engagement.
The work invites contemplation on the nature of communication, the weight of unchallenged ideas, and the beauty found within the imperfections of an isolated stance.
