ARTIST STATEMENT
Haley Gage is an artist who utilizes paint and fibers to explore the body as a landscape that holds memory, experience, and emotion. Through abstracted, cropped nudes marked with bruises and hickeys, she creates visceral, intimate portrayals of the body, highlighting its vulnerability and strength. These marks become traces of past interactions, reflecting how the body retains history and desire. By drawing parallels between the human form and physical landscapes, she invites viewers to reflect on how we engage with the body—both as a site of experience and as a place worthy of care and exploration. The work challenges the notion of the body as an object and instead emphasizes it as a space deserving of attention, inviting reflection on intimacy, trauma, and self-exploration, creating a visual language that celebrates the body as a space worthy of care, attention, and deep connection.
