“With my current body of sculptural work, I am considering the system of human connection, and the place of any one of us human beings in our social matrix. I am ruminating on how we become increasingly tethered to this system of connection at large. How we as individuals caught up in the movements of this larger system are often intensely isolated as a result of being so interconnected, ironically. As I am a participant in this system myself, I consider this pursuit to be an internal investigation.
Within my paintings I consider the cool sensation and the stillness found in the quiet calming moments that we often let go unnoticed and underappreciated. The low hum of sodium bulbs in the streetlamps spilling a warm glow over the wet asphalt of a parking lot after the rain, the low sizzling of the embers on a dying out fire at the end of the night, moments where words are not necessary and the silence is enough. I am soothed by the stillness in these scenes, and I hope to emulate that feeling in my work.
I invite my audience to have their own experience with my abstractions, unbound by any of my own expectations. The artwork is as much the viewers as it is mine, and the agency is in their hands to dictate their own experience. I just ask that it is experienced.”
