Kayla Brown is a multidisciplinary artist from Bloomsdale, Missouri. She earned her Associate of Arts in Fine Art from Mineral Area College in 2019 and her Bachelor of Arts in Ceramics at the University of Missouri–St. Louis in May 2024. She is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Studies at Missouri State University in her third year, where she also serves as a Graduate and Gallery Assistant. Her works have been exhibited in various group shows within Missouri, Iowa, and Alabama.
Brown’s work reflects on her childhood trauma by transforming pain into healing through fragile yet resilient materials. Paper grounds her practice as both metaphor and medium, while mixed media drawing, painting, sculpture, photographs, and gifted objects become vessels for memory and reclamation. Her work becomes a trace of the life she has lived, while confronting generational cycles; she reclaims her identity in the wake of all that she has lost.
