Project Statement: Rosie and Christie both share an inclination toward old found text, clippings, and found items. While Rosie often incorporates collage into her oil paintings, Christie uses collage to create encaustic works. For this collaboration, Rosie prepared a board in a found frame with mostly neutral collaged squares to create a background. She passed this along with two envelopes full of clippings including letters from a presumed engagement book from the 1930s and a number of small collected items giving the task to Christie to put it together. Christie chose to create a sort of board game narrative being inspired by a small set of dice included in one of Rosie’s envelopes, and she also included several encaustic components. It was created with the intention to evoke a sense of play and juvenility, and to allow small discoveries to be made each time the viewer looks at it.
