Project Statement: “My part of this collaboration reflects the times we are living in, and the people who are experiencing them. It is my interpretation how, in 2020, we are living together yet living apart. 2020 has been a year in which we are all trying to keep our distance because of the pandemic yet live together as a reflection of our changing society and our desire for a better world. We have to interact with each other, yet keep a social distance. We would lose track of each other simply because of the nature of life, yet we stay connected through social platforms. We want change, yet we still hold on to the past. Much as a piece of broken glass can be cracked yet still intact, we are all one yet separated and distinct entities. A piece of glass can be broken yet still remain intact and serve its intended purpose. The people in this piece have all gone through adversities of various types and come from all different walks of life. They represent different cultures, social backgrounds, races, genders, and origins. They are all people who are connected through past experiences and future hopes, bloodlines and friendships, marriage and divorce. They are all people who and one way or another have impacted other people’s lives, who in turn take those experiences and use them to change the lives of even more people, leaving a lasting impression which in turn changes the future. We are all trying to live together yet often have to live apart. Is a paradox of our time.” – Marian Stahl Chamberlain
