Rooted in the Beloved Community

“Rooted in the Beloved Community” is an art quilt that measures 41 X 45 inches. It starts with 4 house blocks in the middle of the quilt. The style of the quilt is eclectic with many different elements coexisting — just like our communities. Flowers, music, angels and dancing are just some of the elements represented.

“Rooted in the Beloved Community” is machine pieced and quilted. It is heavily embellished with painted buttons, charms and embroidered words.

The back of the quilt is a black and white African umbrella and drums print. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display, and a label that documents the quilt.

I signed it on the front and attached a charm that says “success, money, happiness. After all isn’t that what we all hope for ourselves and our community?
