Tawaf/ Sa'y: Mankind (limited edition series) Limited Edition of 50
Tawaf/Sa’y
Limited Edition Print by Nsenga Knight
Rooted in the sacred rhythms of Hajj, Tawaf/Sa’y honors the enduring legacy of ritual and resistance. Nsenga Knight draws inspiration from Hajjar—the Ethiopian matriarch whose search for water gave rise to the Zamzam well—and threads her story alongside those of Malcolm X and Ali Shariati.
Knight’s layered text-based composition transforms excerpts from Shariati’s Hajj memoir into sweeping gestures that echo the physicality of sacred movement: the circular flow of Tawaf, the linear momentum of Sa’y. Through this, the work becomes both spiritual map and political meditation—bridging centuries of devotion with contemporary calls for justice.
