In 2020, Fernando and I worked in the Sanitation department of the HomeChef factory in San Bernardino. Driving northeast from Riverside, we saw the big mountains in the distance every day. At night in the summer, I could see the wildfires on the mountaintops lighting up the sky with orange flame and dark, billowing clouds.
