Imagine That

Ms. Anderson says "'Imagine That' celebrates the lives of girls today, learning life skills so that they will become strong young women - the value of sports, technological competence, using math & science and life-long learning. This sculpture depicts a young girl - 8 to 10 years old - wearing a soccer uniform, sitting on books. Her soccer ball sits by her feet. She is reading a book on the History of Space Travel to the Moon and imagines what it would be like to become an astronaut. The titles of the books she sits on are also important to the message of the sculpture. They are: The Miracle of Words, Fun With Math, The Arts For Children, Friends Around the World, Computers and Me, and Famous Women in History."
Kathy earned her B.F.A. degree from the University of Denver in 1964 and five years later a Master’s Degree in Art Education from the University of Oregon. She got married and spent 20 years in volunteer work during the time she raised her two sons. Her volunteer interests have always centered on the issues that affect the lives of children, families and the arts. She has advocated for children in many capacities, including county and state PTA, Jefferson County School District committees, a Colorado Department of Education Taskforce on Fine Arts, and numerous boards of directors including the Jefferson Foundation, Girls Count, American Association of University Women and the Columbine High School Memorial. She started her sculpting career in 1993.
